MIRI: Motorcyclists are seeing red over being asked for their MyKad or personal identification before being served at motorcycle merchandise and workshops

This is part of authority’s effort to curb increasing motorcycle theft cases here, pointed out Nelson Wong Sze Sian who is chairman of Sarawak Northern Region Motorcycle and Bicycle Traders Association.

“The sudden rise in motorcycle thefts in the city has forced the police to ask the public to cooperate with the association.

“After a series of discussions, we agreed on taking preventive measures namely obtain customer’s personal information: name, contact number, address and identification number before offering our service,” he said at a press conference yesterday.

“However our members had difficulty dealing with customers who don’t understand this, leading to loss of business. This press conference is meant to explain the situation to the public. We apologise for the inconvenience, but our intention is for the betterment of the community,” he said.
