KUCHING: Three Mobile Patrol Vehicle (MPV) personnel were uninjured after a vehicle driven by a woman ploughed into the rear of their patrol car yesterday.

The incident occurred around 2.30am when the policemen stopped along Jalan Datuk Stephen Yong to check on a Perodua Kenari which had crashed into a ditch earlier.

After being informed by the car owner that the situation was under control and that he was waiting for the arrival of a tow truck, the policemen got back into their car and were about to leave when a car suddenly slammed into them from behind.

The impact left both vehicles badly damaged, but did not result in any injuries to either the policemen or the female driver and her female passenger, who are both in their 20s.

Both vehicles were later towed away and a report was lodged for further investigation.

In an unrelated incident, a motorcyclist from Kampung Rituh Baru suffered a fractured leg after a collision with a pickup truck yesterday.

The 51-year-old was travelling alone around 7.30am at Siburan bazaar when he collided with a Toyota Hilux and was sent flying off his machine and into a bush by the road.

Passing motorists who witnessed the incident called the state Civil Defence Department, which despatched an ambulance to help send the victim to the Sarawak General Hospital for treatment.
