MIRI: Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Miri chairman Dr Michael Teo was shocked by the state Democratic Action Party’s (DAP) announcement on Friday that it was leaving Pakatan Rakyat (PR).

The Miri member of parliament told a press conference yesterday that he never expected DAP to quit PR.

“What I know is that DAP and PKR are against the implementation of hudud law. We disagree with PAS (Parti Islam Se-Malaysia) on that matter, but I never expected that DAP would go to the extent of leaving PR,” he said. Dr Teo said he hoped DAP would explain their reasons during a meeting with PKR.

“We will have a meeting among ourselves first before meeting with DAP. We want to know their reasons for leaving PR,” he said.

Dr Teo added that although the DAP is no longer with PR, he believes the two parties can still work together. State DAP chairman Chong Chieng Jen had said the decision to pull out was with immediate effect and would be irreversible as the state DAP could no longer work with PAS.

He said the state DAP would not work with PAS at both state and federal levels even if hudud law is not passed in Parliament.
