MIRI: An Indonesian construction worker’s quick thinking saved him from what could have been a fatal crocodile attack at Sungai Telung, Niah last night.

Mulliana suffered injuries to his right hand and abdomen from the crocodile attack.

Mulliana Malla, 35, was washing his clothes and boots in the river at 4.30pm when a crocodile emerged and latched onto his right hand.

“I was stunned when the reptile caught me by the hand and tried to drag me into the river… I tried to shout for help but it was useless,” said Mulliana when met by The Borneo Post earlier today.

Mulliana struggled against the crocodile for five minutes, poking at its eyes until it released him. He estimated the crocodile to be about two meters in length.

“After I poked it in the eyes, the reptile let me go and then went into the river… I then immediately returned to the shore and shouted for help.”

His coworkers rushed to his aid and managed to send him to Miri Hospital. He sustained injuries on his right hand and abdomen.

“It was the scariest thing I’d ever experienced in my life,” Mulliana said, feeling blessed to have survived the ordeal.
