Charge #KitaLawan protesters for contempt of court — Ibrahim Ali

KUALA LUMPUR: The Pertubuhan Pribumi Perkasa Malaysia (Perkasa) yesterday urged that the protesters during the #KitaLawan rally be charged with contempt of court.

Its president, Datuk Ibrahim Ali said otherwise, it would become a precedent for future events that when a person who was found guilty, there would be parties who organise rallies so as to challenge the court’s decision and insult the judges.

“In an effort to free (Datuk Seri) Anwar Ibrahim, this (#KitaLawan) would become a dangerous precedent to our nation.

“If this continues, in the future, if a person is found guilty by the court, there would be those who would question it, (saying) the judges are not fair and not right.

“Their instigations, their speeches during the rally urging that Anwar be freed, all that I consider as contempt of court,” he said at a press conference held after chairing the Perkasa’s Supreme Council Monthly Meeting at the Sultan Sulaiman club, here yesterday.

An estimated 500 people as well as senior leaders of Pakatan Rakyat gathered in Kuala Lumpur on Saturday to urge that Anwar, who was sentenced to five years’ jail for sodomising his assistant Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan in 2008, to be freed.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar was reported as saying the #KitaLawan gatherings would no longer be allowed in KL and must be stopped as the group was aggressive when they assaulted a member of the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) enforcement team who was on duty.

Several senior leaders had been detained in various different locations to assist in investigations into the rally.

At the same press conference, Ibrahim also condemned the provocation by various parties in questioning hudud law.

He said the non-Muslims should realise that hudud law would only apply to Muslims, and stressed that Muslims had never questioned the beliefs of other religions.

“If this (provocation) continues and is not stopped, we fear that unity among the races would be affected,” he added. — Bernama
