SIBU: A medical doctor here is taking legal action against a Facebook user for defaming her by making wild accusations.
Dr Lau Hung, whose clinic is at Jaya Li Hua here, told a press conference yesterday that she had lodged a police report and also reported the matter to the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC).
She claimed that on March 23, a company supervisor brought an Indonesian worker to her clinic and requested that the latter be injected with a toxoid.
A nail had pierced the worker’s foot and he needed urgent wound dressing to prevent infection, she said.
However, the supervisor repeatedly insisted that the worker be given a toxoid injection only.
Dr Lau said based on standard medical procedure, she saw the urgent need to dress the wound as it was dirty.
When the medical bill for RM260 was issued, the supervisor complained that the amount was too high and repeatedly asked for a discount.
Dr Lau eventually reduced it to RM225, but the supervisor told her that the worker’s medical claim was only RM180 per annum.
However, Dr Lau, explained to the supervisor that the medical treatment were all done accordingly and the charge
was based on the standard fee structure.
Dr Lau claimed the supervisor later used Facebook to defame and tarnish her image as a medical doctor by making all sorts of wild accusations, including accusing her of being a ‘con doctor’.
She said if the supervisor had wanted to file such a complaint, he should have used the proper channels.
