LUNDU: The one-day roadshow hosted by Kota Gading Driving Institute (IMKG) yesterday gave members of the public the opportunity to register for driving lessons charged at current fees before the implementation of Goods and Services Tax (GST).

Its managing director Henry Harry Jinep said those who registered during the roadshow could also enjoy a 15-per cent discount on fees for classes slated for obtaining B2 licence (motorcycle) ranging from RM587 to RM488, and D licence (car) from RM1,500 to RM1,298.

He also claimed that IMKG was the only institute of its kind in Malaysia to come up with such offer just days before the enforcement of GST, which is this April 1.

“Those who have registered (before April 1) will be exempted from GST. This is one way to help the people, because all classes for these driving licences will be imposed with GST from April 1 onwards,” he said.

The IMKG roadshow was declared open by Mas Gading MP Anthony Nogeh Gumbek.

Henry also mentioned that the roadshow was a platform for IMKG, sited on a five-acre land near Tondong in Bau District, to reach out to the market here by offering them driving lessons at attractive prices.

He added that although IMKG opened a one-stop-centre in Bau last month, it had appointed two agents – one here and another for Sematan – to accommodate the customers here.

Meanwhile, Nogeh in his speech said the IMKG roadshow had made it easier for the local folk to register for the classes and obtain driving licence.

He said in the past, they had to travel all the way to Kuching – even having to spend several nights there – just to attend such classes and sit for the examinations.

“Now, they have a better option in obtaining legitimate driving licence without having to go very far,” he said.

The turnout yesterday was very encouraging, despite the downpour in the morning.

A specially-invited band from Stungkor also gave a festival-like atmosphere to the event, playing upbeat and catchy music to entertain the crowd.

Sarawak Rivers Board (SRB) controller William Jinep, Lundu District officer Hamsein Atar and local community leaders also attended.
