MIRI: Walking down the aisle to get married to the man you love, is almost every girl’s dream.

For 22-year-old Yvonne Koh, she got the ultimate surprise when her boyfriend of five years popped the question last weekend, witnessed by dozens of her friends, family members and city revellers.

Initially, Koh was ‘tricked’ by her boyfriend, Chong Kian Tang, to visit a wedding fair which he claimed was held at Bintang Megamall to try out a value for money super wedding package that would cost them only ‘RM29.90’.

To make the scenario more convincing, several booths including a make-up tutorial and photo booth, were set-up by ‘professional studios’.

“Right after Koh went to try out a wedding gown and make-up, everyone (friends and family members) started to show up in front of the stage, with a balloon each in their hands.

“The moment she stepped out, tears began to well up in her eyes. That’s the moment I was waiting for, a touching moment that she won’t forget for the rest of her life,” Chong told reporters.

The moment Koh said ‘I Do’ to Chong’s proposal, everyone who were there to share the moment cheered for the couple with well-wishes.

Expressing his gratitude to friends who had helped in the preparation, and JIC Entertainment and Bintang Megamall for being supportive by providing the venue, Chong said the wedding proposal was not an advertisement.

“Miri is a very small place. And its community is friendly and shy people. I wanted to show them that it is alright to shout out your love and share your happiness with people around you,” he said.

Adding to the excitement of the ‘Wedding Proposal’ Chong also specially prepared a dance performance for his fiancée and the revellers.
