ENGKILILI: All villages and longhouses in the Engkilili state constituency are expected to be connected to the power grid by June 1 this year.

This was revealed by Engkilili assemblyman Dr Johnical Rayong Ngipa, who pledged that he would do his best to ensure all areas in the constituency are connected to the state’s power grid in time for his constituents to celebrate Gawai this year.

Speaking at a dinner organised by Sarawak National Youth Organisation (Saberkas) units in Engkilili at Lidong on Saturday, he also said he would invite Lubok Antu MP Datuk William Nyallau Badak and Deputy Minister of Rural and Regional Development Datuk Alexander Nanta Linggi who is in charge of rural infrastructure for Sarawak to visit Engkilili next month.

“Come April 17, I will bring both of them to visit all areas in Engkilili not connected yet to the power grid. Regarding this matter, I will not stop until everyone in my area gets their electricity supply,” he asserted.

At the same time, Rayong reminded the people to be thankful to the Barisan National (BN) government for all the developments and that he is still their legitimate BN representative.

“This will never be possible if I am an opposition assemblyman. Changing my political party does not mean that I am quitting the BN coalition and as far as I am concerned, Engkilili is still a BN area,” he said.

Meanwhile, Rayong presented a cheque worth RM5,000 to Saberkas Engkilili division for building more graveyard facilities.

Winston Tading received the cheque on the division’s and organisers’ behalf.

The event, officiated by Rayong, was jointly organised by the Enteban, Issu, Lidong and Tabut Saberkas units and was held at SK Nanga Lidong school compound.

A karaoke and men’s cross-dressing contest were also held to spruce up the event.
