BINTULU: Photographers will stand to benefit from the Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (SEDC)’s latest venture.

The corporation has stated that it is ready to help aspiring photographers by providing funds to promote this division through the production of photo calendars of the town and a photography competition to develop the skills of local photographers.

Assistant Minister of Tourism cum SEDC chairman Datuk Talib Zulpilip said those with photography skills needed to see it as a source of income and a business opportunity, especially when they had the potential to become professional photographers.

He said this when officiating at the closing of a digital photography entrepreneurship course at Li Hua Hotel yesterday.

“To become a good and successful photographer, one must be talented and know how to make use of the skills to earn income.

“The interest and passion in photography can be turned into a business as there is high demand for such services nowadays,” said Talib.

He added that the proposal to produce a Bintulu calendar by using pictures of the town needed to be supported by the local authority, and SEDC would give its full support towards that effort.

The photography competition, he suggested, could be organised with the beautiful scenery of Bintulu as well as the livelihood of local fishermen and many other setting as themes.

Thirty two participants attended the course, including members of Bintulu Visual Art Community and Saberkas Jepak.

SEDC Entrepreneurs Development Division director Shafiee Ahmad, Pemanca Rosli Kamaruddin and local community leaders were also present.
