SIBU: More than 7,000 hectares of native customary rights (NCR) land in Kakus area are now undergoing perimeter survey, says Assistant Minister of Local Government Datuk John Sikie Tayai.

“Kakus is a big area and the completion date of the exercise will depend on the Land and Survey Department.

“Rural folk are advised not to be misled by the negativity spread by the opposition on the perimeter survey,” Sikie, who is Kakus assemblyman, told The Borneo Post yesterday.

He was asked on the perimeter survey exercise in Kakus area.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem when opening the state-level Grassroots Leadership Seminar at the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) complex in Kuching recently, called on grassroots leaders to assist the government in implementing its plans for the people.

The seminar, the first in a series of 11 engagement programmes being held across the state, was attended by 685 grassroots leaders comprising community leaders, ‘ketua kaum’ and village security and development committee (JKKK) secretaries from Kuching, Bau and Lundu districts.

Adenan had also stressed as grassroots leaders, it was their responsibility to inform the people of any agenda, programme and project by the government to prevent confusion and ensure effectiveness.

Sikie, who is also Assistant Minister of Native Adat and Penan Affairs, said it was crucial for community leaders to keep track of current affairs so that they would be aware of developments around them.

Last Wednesday, 84 community leaders and headmen from Kakus state constituency attended the three-day seminar, which kicked off on March 23 at Kemuyang Youth Camp here.

“It is important to give new ideas to them and from there, to cascade down the information to those under their care,” Sikie said.
