BINTULU: Sarawak is requesting for an allocation of RM480.43 million under the 11th Malaysia Plan for the development of various projects at the Samalaju Industrial Park, 73km from here.

The projects include site preparation and infrastructure work for Samalaju Industrial Park Phase II costing RM326.16 million, Samalaju Water Supply Phase II (RM20 million) and the upgrading of Tanjung Kidurong Road (RM10.1 million).

“Two schools which will be built are SK Samalaju (RM52.30 million) and SMK Samalaju (RM34.9 million) to cater for the children of the workers at the industrial park,” said Sarawak State Planning Unit director Datu Ismawi Ismuni.

He was briefing Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak on the development of the industrial park here yesterday.

Ismawi also said that RM15 million would be needed to build a health clinic, RM10 million for the construction of a police station, RM10 million for the 24th Battalion General Operations Force Camp and RM2 million for the construction of Samalaju Fire Station.

He hoped that Najib could approve the proposed federal funded projects to ensure the development of Samalaju Industrial Park and Sarawak.

To date, a total investment of RM25.18 billion has been approved at the Samalaju Industrial Park, involving 15 companies, comprising seven foreign companies, four local ones and another four joint ventures between local and foreign companies.

Most of the companies produced basic metal products such as aluminium and alloy, while one company is involved in the production of gas and another produces chemical.

Ismawi said four companies had already realised their investment and were now in operation at the industrial park.
