IPOH: A brouhaha over the all-black attire worn by opposition assemblymen at the opening yesterday of the Perak State Legislative Assembly sitting, momentarily interrupted the session yesterday.

It all started with Datuk Khusairi Abdul Talib (BN-Slim River) chiding the opposition for showing disrespect to the Royal Institution.

Yong Choo Kiong (DAP-Tronoh) then stood up and blasted him for harping on the issue.

Adding oil to the fire, Youth, Sports and Communication and Multimedia Exco chairman Datuk Shahrul Zaman Yahya rose to say his piece, triggering a barrage of reproaches between them.

Finally, Speaker Datuk Seri SK Devamany had no choice but to step in and water down the tension.

But sparks almost flew again between Shahrul Zaman and Yong when they incidentally encountered each other while leaving the hall.

Fortunately their fellow assemblymen managed to calm them down.

Twenty-six opposition representatives in black arrived together at Bangunan Perak Darul Ridzuan on Tuesday.

Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Zambry Abdul Kadir described their action as rude and disrespectful, particularly because Tuesday was a day of history for the state.
