KUCHING: Padawan police are making continuous and concerted effort to prevent, identify and reduce criminal activities.

Its police chief Supt Ng Ah Lek said they would focus on entertainment outlets and traffic by launching integrated operation to curb crime activities in the district.

“We have made a few arrests,” he told reporters yesterday, but did not disclose the number.

Ng, together with other police officers had earlier visited Siburan Community-based Rehabilitation Centre (PDK) in Siburan in conjunction with the police 208th anniversary celebration.

“Even though we are entrusted to look after public safety, we never neglect our responsibility to be with the less fortunate,” he said.

Chairman of Siburan PDK Lomas William Alien was also present at the function. The centre has 171 residents aged four to 48 years.

Ng told reporters that illegal racing, which was reported to be on the rise, was also on their agenda.

“We are seriously monitoring the situation and those with information can always contact us at 082-862233,” he said.

Ng pointed out that although the activity was not organised, police would always be on the alert, adding that the patrol teams had been directed to mobilise themselves and be on the ready.

He added that organised illegal racing was uncommon in the district due to the many dark roads.
