The express bus that landed on its side near Kampung Sungai Damit, Membakut, yesterday.
BEAUFORT: Seventeen people, including the driver, escaped with only minor injuries after the 42-passenger express bus they were travelling in landed on its side at Kampung Sungai Damit, Membakut, here yesterday.
It is learnt that the express bus, which belongs to the 1Borneo Logistic company, was ferrying 16 people to Sipitang when the driver lost control of the vehicle around 2pm.
This caused the bus to skid on the road and landed on its side by the roadside.
Fire and Rescue Department public relations officer Senior Assistant Superintendent Mohd Affendy Ramin said the department received a distress call at 2.20pm and immediately sent a fire engine from Beaufort to the scene within minutes.
“All 17 people, including the bus driver, only sustained minor injuries and were taken to the nearest hospital for outpatient treatment,” he said.
Mohd Affendy added that the cause of the incident was still under investigation.
