Hundreds of Catholics attend the Good Friday Service at St Joseph’s Cathedral conducted by Bishop Richard.

MIRI: Thousands of Catholics here yesterday joined Christians worldwide to attend Good Friday service to commemorate the crucifixion of Lord Jesus Christ for the salvation of mankind.

The fine weather enabled many to join in the celebration with most churches including St Joseph’s Cathedral here packed to the brim. Some families even brought their own chairs knowing that normal seats would all be taken up and
the service longer than usual.

Some stood under umbrellas outside while others braved the scorching sun to be part of the congregation celebrating in remorse for all their sins.

Bishop Richard Ng conducted the service at the cathedral from 3pm until 5pm.

Good Friday is a Christian religious holiday — the second day of the Easter Triduum and the day that Christians throughout the world commemorate the crucifixion of Jesus and His death at Calvary.

The Good Friday liturgy has three parts: the Liturgy of the Word, the Veneration of the Cross, and the Service of Communion.
