Padi farmer pleads not guilty to stealing car

KUALA LUMPUR: A padi farmer pleaded not guilty at the Magistrate Court here today to a charge of stealing a car belonging to the National Arts, Culture and Heritage Academy (Aswara) car three years ago.

Muhamad Fitri Abdul Karim, 20, was accused of stealing the Proton Perdana car from the academy’s rector Mohamad Hatta Azad Khan, 63, at a house at No 62, Lorong Burhanuddin Helmi 6, Taman Tun Dr Ismail, here at 6.30 am on Nov 29, 2012.

The charge under Section 379A of the Penal Code provides a maximum of seven years’ imprisonment and a fine if convicted.

In mitigation, Muhamad Fitri, who was represented by counsel Zulkifli Awang, presented an appeal that he be released on bail as he required medical attention at a hospital due to a broken left arm. Magistrate Zuraini Abdul Razak allowed Muhamad Fitri bail of RM6,000 in one surety.
