KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 892 1Malaysia People-Friendly Housing programme (RMR1M) units were completed in Sarawak between 2002 and 2013, the Dewan Rakyat sitting was told.

Deputy Finance Minister Datuk Chua Tee Yong said the total included 33 units in Kota Samarahan that were built with government subsidy.

“So far the Sarawak State Housing Development Corporation has received 41 new applications from Kota Samarahan area and is in the process of evaluating them.

“These RMR1M units (if eligible) will be built using the 2015 subsidy allocation after it is channelled to Syarikat Perumahan Nasional Berhad (SPNB),” he said when replying to Rubiah Wang (BN-Kota Samarahan) at the Dewan Rakyat sitting here yesterday.

Rubiah had requested the government to state the current status of RMR1M applications in Kota Samarahan and the programme’s approval quota for units that had been built.

Chua said there was no specific quota for the RMR1M implementation nationwide as the application for the programme was opened all the time and depended on the annual subsidy allocation received from the government.

To ensure the people’s comfort, the government also upgraded the RMR1M quality by widening the size of the house from 866 sq ft to 1,000 sq ft with much lower prices of between RM75,000 and RM65,000.

He said to ensure the people continued to enjoy housing facilities, SPNB also provided several products such as People’s Aspiration House with units based on the low cost concept being sold at RM35,000 and People’s Aspiration Houses at RM250,000 per unit. — Bernama
