SERUSOP, BERAKAS: The first all-women’s charity run being organised by Fitness Zone called ‘She Runs’ has partnered up with the Council of Women of Brunei Darussalam to raise funds for the Children’s Cancer Foundation (YASKA) and will take place on May 17 at the Serusop branch of Fitness Zone.
The event was officially launched, yesterday by the Deputy Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, Datin Paduka Hajah Adina binti Othman and the Managing Director of Fitness Zone, Wu Chun, ©BRUDIRECT.COM reported.

According to Wu Chun during the launching, “My hero is my mother and she lost her life to cancer. Through the influence of my mother, I have been inspired to come up with this yearly event, hoping to increase awareness on how we can help children diagnosed with cancer and show how important women are to our society.

“This is one of the most exciting yet meaningful events that I have ever done in Brunei. It will be an inspiring morning festival celebrating women’s success and we have a great team who will make this charity run an event to remember this year. 100 per cent of the proceeds will go to YASKA to help children diagnosed with cancer fulfil their wishes.”

According to the President of the Council of Women of Brunei Darussalam, Pengiran Datin Paduka Hajah Mariam binti Pengiran Haji Matarsat, “We have 12 associations under this council. We will provide our full support to this event.”

YASKA is a non-governmental organisation that provides children diagnosed with cancer and their families support, while undergoing treatment. It also aims to increase the awareness of children’s cancer in Brunei Darussalam.

A representative of YASKA, Lim Geok Lai, conveyed her gratitude to Fitness Zone and the Council of Women of Brunei Darussalam for hosting the charity event.

She also expressed her hope that through the charity run, public awareness of the group – which has over 100 members including an infant only a few months old – will increase.

The donation will be used to run programmes and activities for the children at the Women and Childrens’ Block of Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha (RIPAS) Hospital. It will also be used to purchase ripple mattresses, diapers, milk powder and specialised equipment such as wheelchairs when needed.

The charity run is split into two categories – 3.7km and 5km, where registration fees will be at B$30 and B$35 respectively. The public can start registering online from April 10 at www.sheruns.com.bn.

The run is limited to only 1,000 participants, who will each get a free T-shirt, race bib, a one-week free pass to Fitness Zone, a finishing medal and vouchers.
