BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: The Royal Wedding Ceremony for His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Malik and Yang Mulia Dayangku Raabi’atul ‘Adawiyyah binti Pengiran Haji Bolkiah continued this evening with the Majlis Istiadat Berbedak Pengantin Diraja (Royal Powdering Ceremony), ©BRUDIRECT.COM reported.

His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam and Her Majesty Paduka Seri Baginda Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Hajah Saleha attended the ceremony at the Istana Nurul Iman.

The Majlis Istiadat Berbedak Pengantin Diraja began with the arrival of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam and Her Majesty Paduka Seri Baginda Raja Isteri to the Balai Singgahsana Indera Buana (Throne Room) of Istana Nurul Iman, the venue for the Istiadat Berbedak Pengantin Diraja.

Also in-attendance were His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office; Her Royal Highness Paduka Seri Pengiran Anak Isteri Pengiran Anak Sarah; His Royal Highness Prince Mohamed Bolkiah, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade; Her Royal Highness Pengiran Anak Isteri Pengiran Anak Hajah Zariah; His Royal Highness Prince Haji Sufri Bolkiah; Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Bini Hajah Faizah; His Royal Highness Prince Haji Jefri Bolkiah; His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Mateen; His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Wakeel; Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Rashidah Sa’adatul Bolkiah; Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Muta-Wakkilah Hayatul Bolkiah; Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Majeedah Nuurul Bolkiah; Her Royal Highness Princess Fadzilah Lubabul Bolkiah; Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Hafizah Sururul Bolkiah; Her Royal Highness Princess ‘Azeemah Ni’matul Bolkiah and Her Royal Highness Princess Ameerah Wardatul Bolkiah.

Also present were Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Masna, Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Amal Umi Kalthum Al-Islam and other members of the royal family.

The Istiadat began with the entrance of Four Awang-Awang (ceremonial youths), followed by the lighting of Dian Empat (Four Ceremonial Candles). Followed by Kasur Namat (a royal cushion of yellow cloth) carried by two Awang-Awang and placed in the centre of Dian Empat.

Yang Dimuliakan Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Dewa Major General (Rtd) Dato Seri Pahlawan Awg Haji Mohammad bin Haji Daud then informed Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Lela Cheteria Sahibun Najabah Pengiran Anak Haji Abdul Aziz bin Pengiran Jaya Negara Pengiran Haji Abu Bakar that the ceremony to invite His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Malik was ready to commence.

Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Lela Cheteria Sahibun Najabah then graciously informed His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam that the ceremony to invite His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Malik was ready.

His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam subsequently instructed the ceremony was ready to commence. His Majesty instructed Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Indera Setia Diraja Sahibul Karib Pengiran Anak Haji Idris bin Pengiran Maharaja Lela Pengiran Muda Abdul Kahar, Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Maharaja Setia Laila Diraja Sahibul Irshad Pengiran Anak Haji Abdul Rahim bin Pengiran Indera Mahkota Pengiran Anak Dr. Kamaludin Al-Haj and a number of Pengiran-Pengiran Cheteria to invite His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Malik to proceed to the Balai Singgahsana Indera Buana.

His Majesty subsequently commanded the wives of the Royal Dignitaries led by Datin Dyg Hajah Edah binti Haji Mohd Noor, wife of Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Lela Dato Seri Setia Awg Haji Abdul Rahman bin Dato Setia Haji Mohamed Taib and Datin Paduka Dyg Hajah Jahrah binti Haji Mohammad, wife of Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia Dr. Haji Awg Abu Bakar bin Haji Apong as well as other wives of royal dignitaries proceed to Pengangunan Diraja to invite the bride-to-be, Yang Mulia Dayangku Raabi’atul ‘Adawiyyah binti Pengiran Haji Bolkiah to the Balai Singgahsana Indera Buana.

His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Malik arrived at the Balai Singgahsana Indera Buana flanked by His Royal Highness Prince Haji Sufri Bolkiah, together with Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Indera Setia Diraja Sahibul Karib and Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Maharaja Setia Laila DiRaja Sahibul Irshad with several Pengiran-Pengiran Cheteria.

The delegation was led by 40 Sinipit (spears) carried by Awang-Awang followed by Juru Bini and two Hulubalang Diraja (warriors), one carrying Pemuras (musket) and Karga. While another carrying Kalasak and Kampilan (a shield and dagger) carried by Hulubalang Asgar. A Dian Tunggal (the single candle) was carried by Awang-Awang.

The delegation was accompanied by 7 male Pahawai carrying a Puan, a Tarian, a Kabok and Panastan, a Kiap, a Chupu, a Pesigupan and a Kaskol. Meanwhile, 16 Awang-Awang carried the Dian 16 (16 candles), followed by other regalia such as 16 Pedang and Perisai (swords and shields), 16 Tumbak Bendarangan, another type of spears, and eight Kabok and Panastan or silver water vases.

Yang Dimuliakan Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Dewa Major General (Rtd) Dato Seri Pahlawan Awg Haji Mohammad informed Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Lela Cheteria Sahibun Najabah that Istiadat Berbedak Pengantin Diraja Lelaki was ready to proceed.

Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Lela Cheteria Sahibun Najabah Pengiran Anak Haji Abd Aziz informed His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam that Istiadat Berbedak Pengantin Diraja Lelaki was ready to commence.

His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam signalled for the ceremony to begin.

The Istiadat Berbedak Pengantin Diraja began with the Dikir Marhaban. His Majesty was later invited to lead in the anointing of traditional powder on his son His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Malik.

At the same time, a 17 gun-salute reverberated, indicating the start of the Istiadat Berbedak Pengantin Diraja. Her Majesty Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Hajah Saleha was next to perform the Menculiki Bedak Diraja (powder anointing). For this ceremonial occasion, a special powder made up of seven colours were used. His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Malik is guided with care, culture indiscipline and courteous according to the Islamic teachings.

It was followed by His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office.

Next was Her Royal Highness Paduka Seri Pengiran Anak Isteri Pengiran Anak Sarah binti Pengiran Haji Salleh Ab. Rahaman, followed by other members of the royal family, including the parents of the royal bride, Pengiran Haji Bolkiah bin Pengiran Haji Jaluddin and spouse.

The ‘Berbedak’ ceremony of HRH Prince ‘Abdul Malik concluded with a thanksgiving prayer read by the State Mufti, Pehin Datu Seri Maharaja Dato Paduka Seri Setia Dr. Ustaz Haji Awg Abdul Aziz bin Juned.

The Istiadat Akad Nikah Diraja (solemnisation) will take place at Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Mosque in the capital today.

The night continued with the ‘Berbedak’ ceremony for the royal bride, Dayangku Raabi’atul Adawiyyah, following His Majesty’s consent.

The royal bride was accompanied by the spouse of YB Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Lela Dato Seri Setia Awg Haji Abdul Rahman bin Dato Setia Haji Mohamed Taib and the spouse of Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Data Seri Setia Dr. Haji Awg Abu Bakar bin Haji Apong, as well as spouses of dignitaries to the Balai Singgahsana Indera Buana.

The royal bride’s delegation was followed by 7 Pahawai women carrying similar royal regalia inside the ceremonial hall.

The ceremonial powdering ritual of the royal bride began with His Majesty, followed by Her Majesty, other members of the royal family and the parents of the royal bride.

A ‘Doa Selamat’ was later read by the State Mufti to conclude the `Berbedak’ ceremony of the royal bride.

The ‘Berbedak’ ceremony ended with His Majesty’s consent after YAM Pengiran Lela Cheteria Sahibun Najabah Pengiran Anak Haji Abdul Aziz informed that the ceremony had been completed.

Present at the ceremony were Peng,iran-Pengiran Cheteria, cabinet ministers, members of the Privy Council, deputy ministers, Pengiran-Pengiran Peranakan, Pehin-Pehin Manteri, Manteri-Manteri Hulubalang, ambassadors, high commissioners, permanent secretaries and heads of department.

The much-awaited Istiadat Bersanding Pengantin Diraja (sitting-in-state), will be held Sunday morning (April 12) at Istana Nurul Iman which will be followed by the royal reception at night.

The thanksgiving ceremony and closing of the ‘Gendang Jaga-Jaga’ will take place next Wednesday.
