Education Ministry implements strategy to strengthen STEM

THE Education Ministry through the Malaysia Education Blueprint (PPPM 2013-2025) has implemented various strategies to strengthen the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) subjects in its effort to produce more experts in the field for national interest.

Deputy Education Minister, P Kamalanathan said among the strategies are to enhance students’ interest via using a new learning approach, strengthening the  curriculum and combining the higher order thinking skills.

“Another initiative is to improve the skills of teachers including training them in primary and secondary schools, then teaching their students the revised curriculum apart from increasing awareness among parents on STEM,” he said during question time at the Dewan Rakyat sitting, here yesterday.

He was replying to a question from Dr Izani Husin (PAS-Pengkalan Chepa) who asked the government to disclose the special programme to produce scientists.

Kamalanathan said the strengthening of STEM initiative is one of the 100 major initiatives in the PPPM 2013-2025 and taking into account the success of the ministry’s Strategies to Achieve the 60:40 Science/Technical:Arts Stream Policy Report. — Bernama
