Girl in rape case involving cop testifies in camera

KOTA KINABALU: The victim in an alleged rape case involving a deputy superintendent of police testified in camera at the Sessions Court here yesterday.

The girl, who is the 11th witness in the trial of Rohaizat Abd Ani, testified before judge Ainul Shahrin Mohamad.

Prior to her testimony, the prosecution had made an application under Section 3 of the Evidence of Child Witness Act 2007.

Rohaizat faces two charges of raping the girl and one count of sodomizing the victim who was 13 years and six months old at the time of the alleged crime, between February 1 and 2, 2012 at 3:30pm in a hotel room here.

Rohaizat is also accused of raping the victim between May 1 and 6, 2012 between 7pm and 8pm at the same place.

The rape charges under Section 376(1) of the Penal Code carry a jail term of up to 20 years and whipping, upon conviction.

The sodomy charge under Section 377B of the Penal Code also carries a prison term not exceeding 20 years and whipping.

Rohaizat is currently released on bail of RM10,000 with RM5,000 deposited with one local surety for each charge.
