MIRI: Some 10,000 people are expected to participate in the Miri City Day Run which will be held on May 17.

Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday, mayor Lawrence Lai said the run is organised by Miri City Council (MCC) in collaboration with Bulatan Runners Club.

“The run will consist of two events. The first event will be in the form of race while the second one will be a ‘fun run’ concept,” he said, adding that the race will be limited to 1,000 participants only.

The race will have six categories; namely men open, women open, veteran men, veteran women, girls junior and boys junior.

The veteran categories are open to men and women aged 45 years old and above while the junior categories are open to boys and girls aged nine to 13 years.

“The route for the race is 10 km while for the fun run, the distance is only five km,” said Lai adding that a total of 10,000 t-shirts will be given out to the run participants based on first-come first-served basis.

The run will be flagged off from Marina Parkcity and the main sponsor for the run is Pantai Bayu Indah Sdn Bhd.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem is expected to be present at the event’s prize giving ceremony to present prizes to the winners.

More details on the run will be made available by the council soon.
