MIRI: Members of the public here are urged to support the sale of angpow packets to raise funds for the Sarawak Children Cancer Society (SCCS) Miri.
Speaking at a press conference here yesterday, spokesperson for the project Shirley Chia said angpow packets of various designs are being sold for the purpose and most of them are from her personal collection.
“These angpow packets are being sold at different prices depending on their designs and all the proceeds will be channelled to SCCS Miri,” she said.
She added that SCCS will hold roadshows at Bintang Megamall from this weekend until May 17 to sell the angpow packets.
“The roadshow at Bintang Megamall will be on every Saturday from 1pm to 9pm and Sunday from 10pm to 9pm.
“The sale is in support of the Go Bald campaign for SCCS which will take place on May 17,” she said.
According to her, proceeds from the sale of angpow packets for SCCS last year was RM14,000 and this year they hoped to raise more.
Those who wish to purchase the angpow packets can contact SCCS Miri chairperson Jocelyn Hee at 019-8841161 or purchase via online at www.facebook.com/GoBald or www.gobald.my.
Meanwhile, Curtin University Sarawak Campus will be supporting the Go Bald campaign by holding its third Go Bald Satellite Shave at its campus on April 24.
Like the main Gold Bald events usually held in shopping malls across Sarawak, a satellite shave is a mini Go Bald event organised by schools, companies, NGOs or any other community organisations at their premises to build awareness of childhood cancer and raise funds for the cause.
The event at Curtin Sarawak is jointly organised by the university’s corporate communications department and SCCS Miri branch.
It will be held from 9.30am to 11.30am at the foyer of the Harry Perkins Lecture Theatre, the same venue as last year’s satellite shave which saw over 70 students and staff, including five females, getting their heads shaved.
Students and staff of the university are encouraged to support the cause by seeking public donations to their pledge cards to support them going bald in solidarity with children affected by cancer.
Those who do not wish to shave their heads can contribute by simply helping to collect donations for Go Bald.
Pledge cards are available from the university’s corporate communications department.
Curtin Sarawak has pledged to support Go Bald for as long as it continues and it is hoped that up to 100 or more students and staff will come forward to support the cause this year.
