KUALA LUMPUR: Shell Malaysia has expressed its continued confidence in Malaysia as an important market for the company, noting it is the most successful country in the Shell Group for exploration.

Chairman Iain Lo said despite the current challenging global economic landscape and lower crude oil prices, the company successfully made and participated in 10 discoveries, during its exploration campaign from mid 2013 to 2014.

“Our gas operations in Sarawak supply gas to our own gas-to-liquids (GTL) plant where we produce the world’s cleanest high-grade waxes that are exported to more than 50 countries across the globe.

“Our Sarawak specialty wax range is a key component in adhesives, from lipsticks to ink toners,” he said in his speech when officiating Shell Malaysia’s new office at Menara Shell, here, yesterday.

Shell is currently working on its second deep-water venture the Malikai oil field, 100km offshore Sabah, Malaysia.

Lo said the Malikai development will require 17 wells drilled from a 23,500 tonne Tension Leg Platform (TLP) production facility, and is the first of its kind to be fabricated and installed in Malaysia.

“Shell has been in Malaysia for over 120 years and there are still many opportunities for the company to contribute to the nation.

“Our investments, innovation, and local impact continue to support the country’s aspiration to become a developed, high-income nation,” he added.

Menara Shell is the first Shell office in the Asia Pacific to implement new guidelines and design principles for workplace planning and design under the Shell Group’s “Connect Programme”.

The programme brings together the very best practices of Shell’s real estate, human resources and information technology departments to connect people, places and technology, to deliver a vibrant, energetic, engaging and ultimately productive workplace. — Bernama
