KENINGAU: A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed at a ceremony held at the Keningau Regional Library yesterday to provide more books for schools in the district as part of the Sabah State Library’s services for schools, the village reading corner and community centre.

In her opening speech, chief librarian Andi Syiartazni Kamaludin thanked British Council mentor Seema Abbasi for facilitating the MoU and helping to empower the schools with a regular flow of reading books in English and Malay for the students.

She expressed hope that more schools would initiate similar activities in the future.

The headmasters also thanked the British Council for their efforts in encouraging an environment of reading.

Under the MoU, which was signed by the headmasters and senior assistants in attendance, the library will provide the schools with regular access to reading books.

Participants from the District Education Office, British Council representatives and teachers from SK Senagang were present at the signing ceremony.

The students from SK Senagang also had the opportunity to tour the library as part of the user education programme and they were treated to a magic show as well as a story-telling session from special guest Ms Ayondah, a Year Four student and award-winning storyteller from SK Kampung Keningau.
