Prudent financial management important, says minister

KENINGAU: Personal financial management among the people in the state needed to be given attention to because of the exposure to various facilities offered by financial institutions, said Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, Tan Sri Joseph Kurup.

“The need to owe is inevitable because of many needs that cannot be obtained except by way of debts,” he said at the Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) mobile services program at Sook Community Hall here on Saturday.

Kurup, who is also the member of parliament for Pensiangan, said it should be done in a controlled manner as it could have an adverse effect on their lives.

He suggested that every community should adopt a healthy financial management, and emphasized the growing importance of savings for themselves and their families for the future.

Kurup believes that through prudent financial management of personal finances and family, every individual can live a comfortable and happy life.

Meanwhile, on the program, he expressed hope that the people would benefit from the information given so that they could plan their lives and their economy better through prudent and orderly financial management.

Also present at the program were Assistant Minister to the Chief Minister and Sook assemblyman Ellron Alfred Angin, Sook Assistant District Officer Primus Takom and representatives of several financial institutions.
