KUCHING: The 11th edition of one of Sarawak’s most exciting and colourful tourism festivals, World Harvest Festival (WHF) 2015, will begin at the Sarawak Cultural Village on May 1.

State tourism minister Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg said two cultural troupes from Sambas and Bandung in Indonesia and one each from Negeri Sembilan and Sabah would take part in the three-day event.

“We are inviting them because because the WHF is essentially a gathering of the world’s rice planting communities.

“It will be an ideal place for them to meet, discuss and compare notes on their respective traditional cultures, art, music and craft,” he told a press conference here today, to announce the annual festival.

The festival’s highlight was the ethnic beauty contest where 16 finalists had been shortlisted, he said.

He added, another exciting event was the sports-based Ironman World Harvest Festival where 15 finalists would compete against one another in traditional events.

Abang Johari said for the first time, there would be the Sarawak Kitchen Food festival where indigenous cuisines would be served, besides organising an indigeneous food cooking contest.-Bernama
