SIBU: 20 teams are vying for the Nangka constituency Futsal Challenge Cup which started on April 4 and will end on May 24.
They are from Nangka (13 teams), Bukit Assek (2 teams), Pelawan, Dudong and Bawang Assan (1 team each) and two invited teams from a mosque mosque and church.
It is organised by PBB Youth Zone 12 Sibu in collaboration with Nangka Service Centre and Nangka Social, Sports, Culture and Unity Secretariat.
Nangka assemblyman Dr Annuar Rapaee officiated at the kick-off on Saturday night.
Speaking to reporters later, Dr Annuar said the activity offered the younger generation an avenue to channel their energy positively.
He added it would inculcate strong discipline among their players besides them learning about the importance of teamwork.
The closing ceremony for the tournament is expected to be officiated by Works Minister Datuk Seri Fadilah Yusof.
