Trilateral Conference Agrees to Step Up Efforts in Saving Rain Forest

Dyg Hajah Normah Suria Hayati binti Pehin Jawatan Dalam Seri Maharaja Dato Seri Utama Dr. Hj Mohd Jamil Al-Sufri, the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Industry and Primary Resources made the remarks during the HOB Trilateral Conference: Towards Three Countries One Conservation Vision yesterday.

According to Dyg Hajah Normah Suria Hayati, what is required from the three countries is to increase knowledge and expertise. She added that this is achievable through establishment of partnerships. Besides making the forest as a centre of scientific research, it is also crucial for the residents in the Borneo to become their own expert by becoming scientists, researcher and organiser.

The keynote presentation on HOB Corridor Initiative by Dr. Henry Chan from World Wide Fund for Nature, WWF said the HOB Corridor project represents a manifestation of a concerted and collaborative action by the three countries. The two-day conference was attended by 200 participants which comprised of the Public Sector, Schools and Non-Government Organisation.
