American academics testify in NCR claim case

KUCHING: Two American academics are testifying in a Native Customary Rights (NCR) land claim case involving the Penan community in Belaga.

Prof Dr Nathan P Nibbelink from the Warnell School of Forestry and Natural Resources, University of Georgia will testify this week.

He is an associate professor of Spartial Ecology and Geographic Information Science with the University of Georgia and the director of the Centre for Integrative Conservation Research.

Meanwhile, Prof Dr Peter Brosius, professor of Anthropology at the University of Georgia had testified earlier in the Kuching High Court for the same case.

His PhD dissertation concerned the Penan Gang in the Belaga District, and he was engaged by the Sarawak Museum Department and state government to carry out research studies concerning the Penan and other ethnic groups in Sarawak.
