Club holds third annual ‘Batizado Troca de Corda’ festival

KUCHING: Capoeira Club MSC Tabuan Jaya is to hold the third annual ‘Batizado Troca de Corda’ festival on May 27 to 30 in partnership with Movimento Simples de Capoeira Sarawak (MSC Sarawak).

Events drawn up includes a two-day workshop for local capoeiristas at Sarawak Youth and Sports Complex from May 27 to 28 followed by the ‘Roda de Rua’ or ‘Street Roda’ at Song Plaza on May 29, and ‘Noite Braziliera’ or Brazillian Night’ at Senso, Hilton on May 30.

“Besides our local capoeiristas, the event will see guests from Indonesia, Philippines, Singapore, Japan, Hong Kong, China and the United States,” founder of Capoeira Club MSC Tabuan Jaya, Malcolm Wu told a press conference yesterday.

Guest capoeira masters and professors include the Contra Mestre Versatil from the US, MSC Malaysia’s principal instructor Prof Rafael and Bantus Capoeira Singapore’s Contra Mestre Claudinho.

Other invited guests are Sambistas (samba dancers) from Singapore and senior capoeiristas from Kuala Lumpur.

At the press conference, OurYouth.my patron Dato Patrick Liew said they would continue to support youth activities in the state.

MSC Tabuan Jaya in partnership with MSC Sarawak has been promoting the art of Capoeira and helping showcase Sarawak to the world.

Promoting the art, MSC Sarawak has been pulling in people from all over the world to practise with local practitioners, its activities catching the attention of the Brazilian ambassador to Malaysia who praised the group for helping the Brazilian Programme of Cultural Diffusion.
