KUCHING: The Liga Kuching (K-League) is a great platform to unearth talents in football and those who shine will get the attention of Football Association of Sarawak (FAS).

In pointing this out, Tourism Minister Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg also said that Sarawak need more local players who could play in the Malaysia Super League.

Abang Johari, who is also Satok assemblyman, made these remarks during a ceremony to present jerseys to Kelab Sukan Komuniti’s (KSK) Satok football team at Wisma Sultan Tengah here.

Meanwhile, KSK Satok manager Irwan Zulkarnain Hasbie said 80 per cent of their players have never played in a competitive league in Sarawak.

“Most of our players were selected through a trial held on March 22 where over 60 locals came for the tryout and 23
were selected to represent KSK Satok in the K-League,” he revealed.

Led by coach Nazarie Kushyairy, the team has so far beaten Borneo Island FC 1-0 but lost to KKR Axis 0-4.

Abang Johari also presented a RM30,000 grant to KSK Satok.
