PUTRAJAYA: The Human Resource Ministry will organise a meeting on manpower during the 2015 Asean Summit.
Minister, Datuk Seri Richard Riot Jaem said the summit, scheduled to be held between August and October was the best platform to improve the quality of the nation’s labour fundamentals.
He said several programmes had been outlined for the summit, including the Asean Seminar on Balancing Flexibility and Security in Labour Market; Asean Forum on Migrant Labour; Asean Declaration on Protection and Promotion of Rights of Migrant Workers and Asean Conference on Productivity.
“All these programmes are aimed at discussing the information sharing of the latest issues pertaining to labour fundamentals,” he said during the ministry’s monthly gathering here yesterday.
Riot said the ministry would also hold courtesy calls with other countries in search of the best method in employment insurance system (EIS) implementation in the country.
He said the ministry was actively involved in discussions over the EIS with the employers and other stakeholders before it was taken to the Economic Council for further talks.
EIS is aimed at providing assistance for retrenched workers via temporary financial aid while regaining employment and re-training opportunities, if neccessary.
The EIS scheme was announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak when tabling the 2015 Budget last October. — Bernama
