KUCHING: The two teachers who allegedly attempted to convert an SMK Lutong student to Islam last month have been transferred back to Peninsular Malaysia.
Welfare, Women and Family Development Minister Datuk Fatimah Abdullah said following an investigation by the Ministry of Education, the teachers had left Miri.
“Based on the ministry’s standard operating procedure, immediately after the incident, an investigation has to be completed within three days,” she told reporters prior to a meeting with the Ministry of Education yesterday.
“After that, action based on the Peraturan-Peraturan Pegawai Awam — Kelakuan Tatatertib, Pindaan 2002 (Public Officers Conduct and Discipline — Amendment 2002) must be taken within seven days.”
Fatimah said the outcome of the investigation was to have the teachers transferred.
“One of them has been transferred to Pahang, while the other teacher is now in Kuala Lumpur,” she said.
News that the teachers allegedly attempted to convert a 13-year-old student went viral on social media after her parents’ letter of complaint to the school and police report were posted online.
