Unending ripples from DAP’s Impian Sarawak

SIBU: Government projects are meant to last and bring about betterment to the people, says Assistant Minister of Youth Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, adding they are different from DAP’s ‘Impian Sarawak’ projects.

He said this could be seen in the quality and value of all government projects.

“It’s understandable that it may take some time to do infrastructure projects due to the vastness of the state but once it’s done, one can see the quality and value of the project.

“It is not planned and completed in a week like most DAP’s ‘Impian Sarawak’ projects. I can’t even equate DAP’s ‘Impian’ projects as an infrastructure development project.

“What they did were merely ‘publicity stunt’ cheap projects like village concrete lanes, which are merely done to hoodwink the local people that they care when in reality they are not able to do much,” Abdul Karim, who is Asajaya assemblyman, said yesterday.

He was asked to comment on Bernama report, where Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem reportedly urged the people in the state not to be taken in by the opposition DAP’s ‘Sarawak Dream’ (Impian Sarawak).

Adenan was also quoted to have said the DAP only managed to implement a few projects yet its leaders talked loudly.

“I fully agree and support our CM’s comment that the people should not be taken in by DAP’s Sarawak Dream, which CM likened as the Malay saying ‘Ayam bertelor sebiji tapi riuh sekampung’.

He pointed out that most of these projects did not have maintenance arrangements and was just a ‘one off’ gift.

“If we were to check as to what has happened to projects done the last one year, one can see that it’s merely to hoodwink the people.

“They don’t last long and after a few months, the situation is back to its original state. Government projects on the other hand are meant to last. They are meant to bring change for the better to the people.”

State BN secretary-general Datuk Dr Stephen Rundi, meanwhile, said the ‘Impian Sarawak’ project was meant to entice the rural people, especially Dayaks to go against the government.

Dr Rundi, who is Assistant Minister of Public Utilities (Electricity and Telecommunications), questioned why it was only now that DAP was so concerned about the rural people especially the Dayaks.

“Because they (DAP) thought they have captured the Chinese majority seats in urban areas which are already developed and don’t depend so much on assistance from government.

“Can they deliver the needs of the rural people?” he asked.

He said DAP had been in existence since the formation of Malaysia but what have they done to the Dayaks to justify their support.

“DAP will have no hesitations to separate from their partners for as long as it serves their bosses’ purpose, even to abandon their own members if they don’t follow their opinion.

“We don’t expect stable and fair government from these people who create hatred instead of compromise/tolerance and harmony as practised by the BN government.

“We the rural people will not easily succumb to these tactics that have taken us for a ride for so long,” Dr Rundi said.
