KUCHING: Kelab Golf Bintulu (KGB) will host the 46th SGA Sarawak Amateur Open 2015 Golf Championship from April 24 to 26.

The three-day event will be participated by over 120 golfers from all over Sarawak.

Currently, 44 golfers have confirmed their participation, including those from Brunei, Sabah and Peninsular Malaysia.

According to Sarawak Golf Association (SGA) president Hoan Kee Hock, the majority of the top 20 ranking local golfers in SGA’s Order of Merit are also expected to compete in the exciting event.

“They include defending champion Lee Ka Tung from Sibu Golf Club, who is currently the top golfer in Sarawak.

“We thank the sponsors for their continuing support towards the prestigious event, which is being looked forward to by members of the local golf fraternity including the young upcoming golfers,” he said in a press conference at Kelab Golf Sarawak yesterday.

After the press conference, the event’s patron Richard Wong handed over the sponsorship and the coveted Datuk Amar James Wong Kin Min Challenge Trophy.

On Sarawak’s golf calendar for 2015, Hoan said in a press statement that there will be about 20 competitions to be held at various local clubs.

Among some of them are the 113th Malaysian Amateur Open Championship, the 2nd Sarawak Grand Championship, Pan Borneo Senior Golfers Championship and the 1st Senior SGA Cup Championship.

“There will also be a number of events for junior golfers, which will provide a good avenue for them to gain exposure and experience to compete against their peers from overseas,” he added.

Meanwhile, the inaugural Sarawak Senior Captain’s Trophy Championship is taking place today (Saturday) at KGS, with 124 participating golfers from around the state.

The event is first of its kind organised by Sarawak Senior Golfers Society for local senior golfers aged between 55 and 81.

It will be graced by the society’s president Datuk Amin Satem who will present the prizes and the challenge trophy.

In addition, Sarawak will also be hosting this year’s Pan Borneo Senior Golfers Championship from May 4-5, with 160 golfers including those from Sabah and Brunei.

Also present at the press conference were KGB captain Paul Shanon Kenbell Barin, secretary and also event organising chairman Ting Kok Tiong.
