SRI AMAN: Clinching the Under-70kg crown of the Mr Benak 2015 bodybuilding competition here is a dream come true for Mathias Anchah.

For years, he has made a name for himself in local and international stage, with his highest achievement being placed among the top five at the World’s Championships in Melaka and the Asian meet in Bangkok, Thailand – both in 2011. Still, the Mr Benak win is, by far, his most memorable achievement.

“This is my birthplace. I’ve always wanted to compete in competitions held in my state and Mr Benak, being run in my own hometown, is simply the most delightful platform ever.

“The support from my townsfolk has been incredible. It’s like I won this title in their honour. It’s an amazing feeling,” the 35-year-old quantity surveyor told The Borneo Post when met after the finals at Batang Lupar Riverfront on Saturday night.

However, Mathias’ win did not come easy as he was up against the best of Sarawak bodybuilding including three-time Mr Sarawak himself, Dr Malvern Abdullah, who was named first runner-up.
