Royals graced Brunei Age Group Swimming Competition

BERAKAS, BRUNEI-MUARA: His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, yesterday consented to witness the 23rd Brunei Age Group Swimming Competition, Brudirect reported.

His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Wakeel consented to participate in the 9 Years Old Category. Organised by the Brunei Amateur Swimming Association, the competition took place at the National Swimming Pool of the Hassanal Bolkiah National Sport Complex in Berakas yesterday afternoon.

On arrival, His Majesty was welcomed by the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Culture Youth and Sport, Dato Paduka Dr. Awg Haji Affendy bin Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Haji Abidin,

Accompanying His Majesty were His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister and the Prime Minister’s Office and Her Royal Highness Paduka Seri Pengiran Anak Isteri Pengiran Anak Sarah, Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Rashidah Sa’adatul Bolkiah and Her Royal Highness Princess Ameerah Wardatul Bolkiah. Also present were His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Muntaqim and Her Royal Highness Princess Muneerah Madhul Bolkiah as well as Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Anak ‘Abdul Haseeb bin Pengiran Maharaja Setia Laila Diraja Sahibul Irshad Pengiran Anak Haji Abdul Rahim.

His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam consented to witness the 50 metre male breaststroke event which was participated by His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Wakeel, who competed as a member of the Royal Swimming Club.

In the competition, His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Muntaqim, a member of the ISB Hammer Heads, participated in 4 events of the 8 Years Old Category, which were the 50 metre breaststroke, 100 metre butterfly, 100 metre backstroke as well as the 50 metre freestyle. In the butterfly stroke and backstroke category, His Royal Highness achieved a new personal record and also for the ‘National Junior Age Group’ for the 8 Years Old Category. His Royal Highness won a silver medal in freestyle event and a bronze medal in backstroke event. Also competing was Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Anak ‘Abdul Haseeb, also a member of the ISB Hammer Heads, in 2 events, which were the 50 metre breaststroke and 50 metre freestyle.

The competition attracted 289 swimmers from 15 different teams which comprised of swimmers from Brunei Darussalam, Sabah, Miri and Indonesia.
