Iced beverages banned in Beluran over cholera

BELURAN: Residents of Beluran were advised not to consume any beverages containing ice cubes to avoid cholera infection.

Based on inspection and monitoring of food samples around Pekan Beluran, it was found that there was a risk of cholera infection through the consumption of beverages containing ice cubes.

Therefore, the Beluran health office, with the approval of Beluran Cholera outbreak committee, had prohibited the sale of ice-based beverages at all restaurants, hawker stalls, food courts and weekly bazaar in this district.

Among prohibited beverages are Milo-ice, Coffee-ice, tea-ice, lemon-ping, ice-blended juices and any beverages with ice cubes.

As for hot drinks, the public were advised to use only filtered water or boiled water from the Department of Water Supply.

The prohibition on the sale of ice-based beverages in Beluran started yesterday (20 April,2015) until the cholera outbreak is controlled.

Any parties who fail to comply with the prohibition notice may face legal action.
