KOTA KINABALU: The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) together with the Royal Malaysia Police have been urged to be proactive role in dealing with individuals who share photographs and videos that involve juveniles caught in untoward activities, and so on.

MCMC and the police should not wait until somebody lodged a report before taking action against perpetrators who shared videos and photographs of that nature, Community Development and Consumer Affairs Minister, Datuk Jainab Ahmad Ayid said when commenting on the recent video of female students caught fighting at a school near here.

She lamented the attitude of some members of the public who shared the video on social media such as Facebook as well as on WhatsApp.

“I don’t understand why society could be so heartless and shared the video…some have made callous comments,” she said.

She added that it was also very important for society to verify what was being shared on the social media.

Jainab also commented that incidence of violent acts in schools was becoming more prevalent.

“I agree with Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye in his recent comment on school bullies and violence at schools,” she said.

She said parents should control their children’s exposure to violent films as the media could influence their habit.

At the same time, she also urged the parents-teachers associations at schools to play their role to curb the incidence of violence involving students at schools.
