TAWAU: A total of 16 cases were recorded with seizures worth RM1 million during a special operation jointly conducted by the Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Ministry (KPDNKK) and the Eastern Sabah Security Command (ESSCom) around Tawau, yesterday.

Its enforcement director, Mohd Roslan Mahayudin said the seizure was the result of a large-scale operation conducted within 24 hours at several areas and premises following a three-month intelligence work.

“In the operation which involved 50 KPDNKK enforcers, several ESSCom officers and police, 16 cases under the Control of Supplies Act 1961 have been recorded including five counts of failure to maintain a stock book and four cases of not having a business license.

“Among the items seized were 2,000 barrels of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), 135,000 litres of diesel and other items believed to be used in illegal activities, including five lorries and 11 units of barrel drum,” he told reporters here today.

He said the seizure was the biggest haul by KPDNKK in Sabah, this year.

Mohd Roslan said the KPDNKK would continue to enhance efforts to address the leakage and misappropriation of the controlled goods.

“Therefore, I urge members of the public to lodge a report on any activities involving misappropriation of controlled goods via the hotline 1-800-886-800 or at the nearest KPDNKK offices so that action can be taken more effectively,” he said. -Bernama
