GEORGE TOWN: Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) cancelled all its programmes in Permatang Pauh yesterday, believed due to an emergency meeting in Selangor.

PKR media coordinator for Permatang Pauh by-election Mohd Hafizan Mazuki issued a statement calling off all yesterday’s programmes involving PKR deputy president Mohamed Azmin Ali, who is also Selangor Menteri Besar, PKR Youth deputy chief Dr Afif Bahardin and PKR’s Penanti assemblyman Dr Norlela Ariffin.

“Those programmes, including a ‘kenduri rakyat’ (people’s feast) and the launch of PKR operation centre in Guar Perahu, were cancelled due to various reasons,” he said in the statement.

However, it was strongly believed that the PKR leaders were now in Selangor to meet PAS leaders to discuss on the cooperation of the two opposition parties ahead of Permatang Pauh by-election.

It was reported Sunday that Permatang Pauh PAS division chief Omar Hassan had issued an ultimatum to PKR to retract its statement against supporting PAS’ Private Member’s Bill on hudud if they want PAS support at the by-election.

Omar said Permatang Pauh PAS also decided to give PKR until before the nomination day on April 25 to do so, apart from demanding an open apology from PKR.

Meanwhile, Penang PKR Youth deputy chief Khairil Anuar Kamarrudin, when  contacted, said he had received  an instruction from the party leadership not to issue any statements for the time being. — Bernama
