MIRI: Narcotics police busted a drug trafficking syndicate on Sunday morning with the arrest of three individuals in a quadruplex flat unit at Permyjaya.

The raiding team seized 119.80grams of Syabu, estimated to be worth about RM28,000 on the street.

The suspects, aged 18, 20 and 27 years, are now under remand at Miri Central Police Station until April 27.

Police believed the drugs were meant for the local market.

Miri police chief ACP Gan Tian Kee told reporters here yesterday that the raid, led by Inspector Vikram Sandra, was launched at about 11.30am after a stakeout for several weeks.

He added that the illegal substances were found inside two sling bags.

The case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries a mandatory death penalty upon conviction.

“Two suspects have tested positive for drugs, and their case is also being investigated under Section 12(2) and Section 15(1)(a) of the same Act.”
