Two Sarawakians convicted of murder in Singapore

KUCHING: Two Sarawakians were convicted of murder in the 2010 Kallang Slashings by the Singapore High Court yesterday.

The Straits Times reported that Michael Garing, 26, was sentenced to death as evidence showed that he was the one who had struck the victim, 41-year-old construction worker Shanmuganathan Dillidurai, in 2010.

The brutal attack had left the dead man with a fractured skull, a severed left hand, a slash wound across his neck and a back wound so deep that his shoulder blade was cracked.

Michael’s accomplice Tony Imba, 36, was sentenced to life imprisonment Apart from Shanmuganathan Dillidurai, the other victims were two construction workers from India – Sandeep Singh, 27, and Egan Karuppaiah, 46 – and Singaporean Ang Jun Heng, 22.

Both Michael and Tony were among the seven men arrested for the spate of violent robberies in Kallang between the two hours from late night May 29 to early morning May 30.

One of Michael’s accomplices, Sarawakian Hairee Landak, 25, had been sentenced to 33 years of imprisonment and 24 strokes of caning for armed robbery with grievous hurt in Jan 2013.

The other Sarawakians arrested for the same case were Sylvester Berogok, 27, Shahman Milak, 23, and Peter Usit Musa, 25.

The seventh suspect Donny Meluda, 23, is still at large.
