SEMPORNA: The police are stepping up security measures when the district holds the 22nd Regatta Lepa Festival from April 24 to 27.

District police chief Superintendent Peter Anak Umbuas said the police would work together with the Eastern Sabah Security Command (ESSCom) to maintain the security level during the festival.

“The marine police in Kota Kinabalu, Sandakan and Semporna also will maintain the safety at sea borders,” Peter pointed out yesterday.

He also said Ops Bersepadu would be carried out continuously to ensure illegal immigrants will not take this opportunity to enter Semporna.

Peter also advised the people to practise safety measures by taking good care of their belongings. Besides locking their houses properly, they should also never leave any valuable things inside the cars to avoid break-in.

Peter said Regatta Lepa is an annual festival and for those bringing children to the event, they should keep an eye on them.

“Motorists should also not park their vehicles indiscriminately which can cause traffic congestion,” he added.
