Santubong C win Benak festival pentangue championship

SRI AMAN: Team SMK Santubong C emerged champion of the Sri Aman Petanque Open Doubles Championship held in conjunction with the Benak (Tidal Bore) Festival here yesterday.

The team comprising Eirwan and Shairadzi, walked away with RM1,000 in cash and the Datuk Francis Harden Hollis Cup.

Second place went to team SMK Santubong A represented by Mohamad Ahir and Muhammad Amirul who walked away with RM700. The pair of Mohd Aini and Haji Rapen of team Bintangor 3 finished thrid while fourth place went to team KePS 3. They went home with RM500 and RM300 in cash prizes respectively. These tree teams were also presented with a trophy.

Teams from the fifth to eighth placing – respectively team Poyot and Son, Sibu B, Sibu E and Sibu A – received a consolation prize of RM100 cash each.

Harden, who is Assistant Minister of Rural Development and Simanggang assemblyman, presented the prize to the winners. Sri Aman Petanque Club chairman Dahlan Ham was also present to witness the ceremony.

A total of 41 teams including those from Sibu, Sarikei, Bintangor and Kuching took part in the event held at the Petanque Arena here.
