SIBU: The Pelawan branch of United People’s Party (UPP) said it has no ‘hidden intention’ in putting up signboards bearing its logo and that of Barisan Nasional (BN) at Lane 27C of Oya Road here.

UPP Pelawan deputy chairman Toh Jack Kuong said the signboards, with ‘A Project By UPP Pelawan Branch’ written on it, was meant to show the community work that the party had done for a good cause and for the people.

“We recently elevated the level of the stretch along the 300m lane as mitigation against flooding, given that it is a flood-prone area.

“We put up the signboards only to show our contribution and as an encouragement to others to do the same. We have no other intention,” he told reporters when met here yesterday.

According to Toh, he sees no offence in also putting in the BN logo on the signboards.

“It is to show our support for the ruling coalition. We even consulted the local authority before placing it (BN logo) on the signboard there, and they gave us the green light.”
