KUCHING: Youths may play a crucial part in promoting the tourism industry in Sarawak.

Azam Youth Central secretary and Youth Azam volunteer Mohammad Nazrie Salasian said this at the ‘Sarawak Tourism Forum’ organised by the Ministry of Tourism Sarawak and Sarawak Tourism Federation in Kuching on April 16 and 17.

Recently interviewed for ‘Randau Semasa Azam’ radio programme at Sarawakfm of RTM Sarawak on April 22, Mohammad Nazrie said as one of the biggest user of social media, youths can use it to promote the tourism industry in the state.

“We can use the social media platform to promote Sarawak and do a lot of activities to develop the tourism industry such as those related to art, music, and culture,” he said.

Azam volunteer Mohammad Nazreen said youths should be alert to the latest issues regarding tourism in Sarawak and know what it has to offer for them to share their knowledge.

According to Mohammad Nazrie, the forum was a platform to understand the state’s tourism industry and what it has to offer.

“It is important for the youths to be more involved in volunteer programmes. For instance, just recently we have Aiffa and later this year, we have the Rainforest World Music Festival (RWMF) and from there, youths can volunteer to gain knowledge,” said Nazrie.

Nazreen learned at the forum that the tourism industry needs to be given more focus and priority as Sarawak is rich in culture and nature that can be used to draw tourists here.

“I also get to voice my opinion and contribute ideas to improve the tourism industry in Sarawak,”said Nazreen.

Information management officer Kerry Edison said it is important for youths to be involved in the tourism industry to acquire knowledge and experience.
