PUTRAJAYA: Civil servants can go on a ‘jihad’ by giving the best service to the people and the community, said Chief Secretary to the Government (KSN), Tan Sri Dr Ali Hamsa.

“This is a major contribution and insya-Allah these noble and sincere deeds will be blessed by Allah,” he said at the Prime Minister’s Department 2014 Excellent Service Award presentation ceremony here, yesterday.

In his speech which touched on IS militant activities, Ali said the government would not tolerate civil servants found involved with IS ideology and other extremist activities.

He did not rule out the involvement of a handful of civil servants in IS activities and stressed that the government did not want it to spread.

Civil servants need to evaluate information found on social websites so as not to be easily influenced by negative and deviationist information such as the dissemination of IS ideology.

In this regard, Ali said the government took a serious view of all matters raised in the 2014 Auditor-General’s Report.

“Follow-up action have to be taken in line with continuous improvement to avoid facing the same criticism in future,” he said.

He also touched on the salary revision for 3,072 civil servants under Grade 11 which would be announced this year, the impact of Goods and Services Tax (GST) and its relation to national financial management.

“These issues are related to the welfare of civil servants which is a priority of the government. If there is surplus of revenue, the civil servants will be able to enjoy a portion of the revenue collected.” he said.

The ceremony yesterday saw 1,954 employees from 58 departments, agencies and divisions under the Prime Minister’s Department receiving their excellent service awards.
